CACTUS HUGGER RIDE CALENDAR

All rides start promptly at designated time.  Arrive early to leave with the group (10 minute rule is in effect).  Safety helmet is required for all rides.  Mileage for each ride can vary from that listed depending on the ability of riders. Pass the word about our rides to friends and family.

Description:  Ride on back roads through southeastern section of valley.

Description:  We’ll ride about 20 miles on bike trails around the southeast section of the valley.

 

 

Saturday Rides Twice a Month

 

March 20, 2010

 

Time:  10:00 am

 

Ride:  Retreat to Mesquite~aka Over the Hill

Place:  Ivins Firehouse at 100 East Center Street, Ivins, Utah

 

Distance:  50 miles

 

Description:  We ride Old Hwy 91 over Utah Hill to Mesquite where we will socialize and have lunch at a local eatery.  You will need to arrange a car shuttle back to Ivins, so call your friends and enlist non-riders to join us for lunch in Mesquite then bring you back to Ivins or shuttle a car over the hill before the ride.  Ride will end in the parking lot at Smith’s on Hillside Drive in Mesquite. Another option is to drive to Mesquite and park at Smiths parking lot just south of  Hillside Drive.  Then ride back up Utah Hill from the south side and meet the group riding from Ivins. 

 

March 27, 2010

Time:  10:00 am

Ride:  Zion National Park

Place:  Rockville Church Park parking lot

 

Distance:  42 and 25 mile routes

 

Description: The long route cyclists will ride from Rockville back to Virgin Town Park; regroup; ride back to Rockville; regroup; ride into Zion National Parkto the Temple of Sinawava.  Group will have lunch and socialize in Springdale then return to Rockville. The short route riders will leave Rockville and ride directly to Zion then meet the long distance rides for lunch in Springdale before returning to Rockville. BRING YOUR NATIONAL PARK PASS, PLEASE

 

April 10, 2010

Ride:  Washington/Sand Hollow Loop

Place:  Nissan Park on Telegraph St in Washington, next to Star Nursery

 

Distance:  About 30 miles

 

Description:  Ride will go east out of Washington on Telegraph and Hwy 9 to make a loop around Sand Hollow Reservoir, and returning to Washington via Hwy 9 and Telegraph.  Socialize after the ride at lunch at Dave’s favorite spot in Washington.

 

April 17, 2010

 

Time:  9:00 am

Ride:  Hurricane Valley/Toquerville Loop

Place:  Quail Creek Reservoir Overlook of the Dam

 

Distance:  20, 30, or 40 miles

 

Description:  Ride will loop clockwise from the start north to Anderson Junction where those riding short distance many turn around back to start.  Others will ride through Toquerville and LaVerkin to 700 West in Hurricane.  Those wanting to ride the 30 mile distance will stay on Hwy 9 returning to the start. Those riding the 40-mile route will  turn south to Hurricane fields and will loop out around Sand Hollow Reservoir then back to the start at Quail Creek Overlook.  Socialize after the ride at lunch at St. Helen’s Sports Bar in Washington.

 

May 8, 2010

 

Time:  8:30 am

meet in the theater parking lot to carpool to the east side of the tunnel.

 

9:00 am meet on the east side of the big tunnel on Hwy 9 to start ride.

Ride:  Zion National Park (east side) to Mount Carmel Junction

Distance:  40 miles or 20 miles (you choose)

 

Description:  Bill says this is his FAVORITE ride in Utah.  The route is out and back from Zion to Mt. Carmel Junction on Hwy 9.  Regroup in Mt. Carmel for the return to Zion NP. If you want to ride a shorter distance, you may turn around at the summit at the buffalo ranch at Rocky Top.  After the ride we’ll convene at the Pioneer Restaurant in Springdale for lunch and socializing.  Bring your National Park Pass

Ride:  Buzzard Loop on Cedar Mountain

Place:  Junction of Hwy 14 and Mammoth Creek Road parking area

 

Distance:  45 miles

 

Description:   We ride east from the start on Hwy 14 making a clockwise loop on Hwy 143 uphill to 10,600 feet elevation at Cedar Breaks,  then descending sixteen miles to the of Mammoth Creek Road.  From there through Mammoth Creek volcanic flows and over the creek it is 15 miles up (mostly) and down to the start.  We’ll stop at the café in Duck Creek for socializing and lunch.

Time:  Meet for dinner on Friday evening.  Let Grant know if you want a reservation. 

 

 Saturday morning meet at 9:00 am in front of the lodge ready to ride.

Ride:  North Rim of the Grand Canyon from Jacobs Lake Lodge

If you want to camp or travel trailer it, the Jacob Lake National Forest campground is now open and you can make your reservation there athttp://www.hikercentral.com/campgrounds/

 

Distance:  80 miles roundtrip from Jacobs Lake to North Rim and back.

 

Description:  Escape from the heat of home by riding the beautiful Kaibab Plateau from Jacobs Lake Lodge to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with your friends.  This ride is out and back.  You may shorten the distance you ride by driving 10-20 miles towards the Rim then starting your ride.  We will have lunch and socialize at the Rim Lodge midway during the ride.  Carry plenty of snacks and water.  Bring your National Park Pass.  Only two people per pass are allowed at this park on bike.
